Longer lengths are meant to wrap around the waist 2Xs.
for a Mitre consider your head circumference +extra to tie on the head.
for Sash consider your waist size.
i.e.. a 36″ waist + waist 36″ + 30″ for tie knot and cascading sash : choose 90″: or longer

A Sash is a tie belt 3″ or 5″ width
A Mitre is a head wrap 3″ width, cut ON THE BIAS for a very slight
stretch or give for a comfortable wrap that ties around the head.
